Q: Why does my box say there are 5 seeds when there are 8?
A: For the early version of the kit, we opted to provide 5 seeds instead of 8. We decided just before the release to reward early adopters with 3 BONUS SEEDS, which brought the total number of items in the box to 8 instead of 5.
Q: Why does my instruction manual have growing instructions for 5 seeds instead of 8?
A: The first few hundred kits sold had paper copy instructions that covered the original 5 seeds and not the 3 bonus seeds. Not to worry! A PDF of the full instructions (for all 8 seeds) was automatically emailed upon purchase (check your email account linked to Amazon). The PDF is also available for download at https://ashbrookoutdoors.com/downloads/.
Q: Are these seeds non-GMO?
A: Yes the seeds are organic and non-GMO.
Q: Where can I get a backup copy of the instruction manual?
A: A backup copy of the full 8 seed instruction manual should have been mailed directly after purchase (check your email account linked to Amazon). It can also be found at https://ashbrookoutdoors.com/downloads/.
Q: Do the seeds need cold stratification?
A: No. These seeds were specifically chosen for their ability to germinate without any cold stratification prior to planting.
Q: Do the plants ever need to be repotted?
A: Yes. Once the plants get to around 4-6 inches, they begin to compete for space and sunlight. At this time, it is best to separate into a larger pot, so that the root systems can expand.
Q: Is mold on the pot normal?
A: A small amount of mold on the pot can happen from time to time, as each pot is made from organic peat matter. Mold is typically created due to overwatering or very high humidity. The best way to approach removing the mold is to simply wipe it off. To avoid mold in the future: 1. Avoid overwatering 2. Keep the pots in a well-ventilated area. Air circulation helps with water absorption and is important for the developing plants.
Q: What are the peat pellets made from?
A: The peat pellets are made from the renewable raw material Sphagnum peat moss and coco fibers.
Q: Do I need to fertilize?
A: The peat pellets do contain nutrients that will support the growth of the young seedling for the first 4 to 6 months. After that time, consider adding fertilizer to encourage growth.
